Chandler Hall Art Workshop Series a resounding success Thanks to a generous grant from Kendal Chari table Funds, Chandler Hall offered a monthly Art Workshop Series from April to November in 2019 The goal of the series was to provide senior adults in the Newtown community opportunities for social interaction and self-expression. The eight workshops included art history, instruction hands-on creation of art, and time for socializing and refreshments The workshops were offered at no cost to both Chandler Hall residents as well as people in the outside community aged 55 and older. All work shops were led by two local teaching artists, Tim Mammel and Shawn Allen-Dela Rosa Participants explored a range of techniques and media including collage, watercolor, pastels, and charcoal. Experience ranged from absolute begin- ner to accomplished artist, and all enjoyed learn ing from each other and celebrating each other's progress. The series concluded with a collaborative group project of a collage mural inspired by the work of Henri Matisse. Due to the success of this series, Chandler Hall is pursuing the possibility of offering another series in 2020 to continue the momentum around older adults pursuing lifelong learning in a group setting. To receive information on future workshop series, contact Christine Godshall, Director of Philanthro py, at 267-291-2231.
